The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for administering day-to-day human resources operations, with a primary focus on benefits administration and regulatory compliance. Reporting to the Chief People & Culture Officer, this position executes essential HR functions including employee onboarding and off-boarding, benefits coordination, personnel file maintenance, and data management within the ADP and Employee Navigator systems. The role ensures organizational alignment with all federal, state, and local labor laws, operating within a unionized workforce environment.

Essential Responsibilities Include:

  • Manage all employee onboarding and off-boarding processes, ensuring a structured transition for incoming and departing staff.
  • Collect and verify all required onboarding documentation to ensure regulatory and organizational compliance.
  • Create, maintain, and secure comprehensive employee personnel files and records across both digital (ADP and Employee Navigator) and physical filing systems.
  • Conduct periodic audits of HR files and records to verify that all required documentation is collected, completed, and filed appropriately.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations; regularly review internal policies and practices to maintain legal alignment.
  • Responsible for the daily benefits administration, including managing annual open enrollment, resolving claims, addressing billing and invoice discrepancies, distributing plan information, and assisting with wellness programs.
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to leave management (Disability, FMLA, STD, PTO, etc.), Workers’ Compensation claims, Unemployment claims, and COBRA.

Minimum Qualifications Include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of
  • education and experience that has built comparable skills and perspectives.
  • Minimum of 5 years of proven experience as an HR Generalist or in a closely related role.
  • PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification is strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience working within a unionized environment is preferred.
  • Experience with ADP and Employee Navigator is a plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint, with a strong comfort level learning new digital tools.
  • Deep working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
