Time Commitment: 8 - 10 hours per week, with some hours on the weekend

DiasporaDNA Story Center is a cultural hub that explores origin stories and collective memories from the art, history, and lives of the global majority. We celebrate our shared humanity through story; kinkeeping the common threads of our diasporas across the continuum of time.
Position Overview
We are seeking an energetic and organized Ancestry Research Intern to assist in researching and analyzing cultural artifacts and historical records. This role provides the opportunity to support community ancestry, lineage-tracing,recovering global majority histories, and translating intricate historical data and origin stories.
This is a hybrid position, with a mix of in-office work, remote tasks, and on-site event support. The intern will be expected to work weekend events \as needed, with advance notice provided for all scheduled weekends.
Key Responsibilities
Doing cultural and historical research using tangible artifacts, photographs, and collectibles
Supporting storytelling and ancestry projects that link communities to global majority heritage
Assist in organizing, documenting, and translating historical collections in retrieve overlooked narratives
Organize ancestral knowledge into comprehensible formats for digital storytelling and programs for the public
Contribute to post-event reports and evaluations
Facilitate remote workshops
Qualifications
Strong organizational and communication skills
Interest or experience in conducting interviews, listening to oral histories, and connecting with diverse groups
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends (with advance notice)
An understanding of Black and global majority diaspora histories, collective memory, and origin stories
Detail-oriented, reliable, and able to take initiative
Familiarity with historical records,census date, oral history collection, and digital repository tools
Experience with Google Workspace, content management systems, or spreadsheets (Excel/Google Sheets) is helpful but not required

This is an intern role and a great opportunity for anyone interested in working for an arts and culture nonprofit organization. This is a hands-on role that allows the intern to learn by doing and sharpen their skills.
