Building Maintenance Technician

Job Description

The Building Maintenance Technician will work with all staff of the Center with special focus on collegiality with the Directors of  Studio School, Private Events, Galleries  and Community Events. A demonstrated passion for the arts, the mission of a community arts center and appreciation of historic buildings is preferred. 

Reporting and Scope of the Facility

The Building Maintenance Technician will report to the Executive Director but will be an integral part of the AAC team.  The technician will be responsible for maintaining facilities with a special focus on building systems (HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, etc) together with other facility- related responsibilities.  The technician will also be the point of contact with outside vendors and specialty contractors to ensure maintenance and repairs are done in a timely manner. AAC occupies two sides of Alverthorpe Manor: the Studio School, housing art studios,  and the Manor, featuring 4 art galleries, offices, kitchen and art studio space. There is  additional usage of the 27-acre site, Pavilion, outdoor stage and Little Meetinghouse. 

Primary Responsibilities

• Keep track of maintenance and perform repairs and upkeep in galleries, classrooms, kitchen, gardens, outdoor facilities and common spaces.
• General maintenance of building systems and equipment on an ongoing basis;
• Carpentry and painting duties, dry wall spackling,and sanding;
• Basic plumbing repairs;
• Set up/break down for events;
• Managing outside vendors and contractors

Requirements

• Ability to see the big picture  
• Valid Driver’s License;
• Background checks and clearances required;
• Experience in at least one area of building utility systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical);
• Flexible schedule; 
• Able to calmly make emergency and safety related decisions;
• Able to lift 50lbs;
• Ability to work collegially with all staff of ACC

Job Type- Part-time 15-20 hours/week
Pay Type: Hourly rate
Minimum Salary/Hourly Rate: $16/hour
Maximum Salary/Hourly Rate: $18/hour
 

Located on a historic 27-acre campus in Jenkintown, PA, just outside of Center City Philadelphia, Abington Art Center presents art exhibitions, creative programs, community forums and cultural events for the eastern Montgomery County and Philadelphia area. The Studio School provides classes in painting, drawing, printmaking, papermaking, ceramics and metals for both adults and youth.
