BUILDINGS MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

JOB DESCRIPTION

Background: Woodmere is a not-for-profit art museum dedicated to the art and culture of Philadelphia and located in Chestnut Hill. With a staff of approximately 25 professionals, the work culture is team-based and collaborative.  Woodmere serves approximately 50,000 guests annually.

Reporting and Scope of Facility: The Buildings Maintenance Technician will report to the Facilities and Grounds Manager and will have responsibilities pertaining to the maintenance of Woodmere’s facilities with a special focus on building systems (HVAC, Security, Plumbing, Electricity, etc.) together with other facility-related responsibilities. Woodmere’s four buildings include: 1) Smith Hall, the original historic mansion with galleries and offices; 2) Maguire Hall, a recently renovated, near adjacent mansion, featuring 14 galleries, a children’s art studio, and a commercial kitchen; 3) an adjacent residential building used for storage and back-of-house activities; and 4) a carriage house art studio.

Responsibilities:

  • General maintenance of building systems, parking areas, utilities, and equipment on an ongoing basis;
  • Carpentry and painting duties, dry wall spackling, and sanding;
  • Plumbing repairs;
  • Assist with grounds keeping;
  • Open and/or close Woodmere’s buildings and ensure security at the start and close of business;
  • Manage work orders for repairs and event setup requests.
  • Parking management for events, event set-up, and other duties as required.

Requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s License;
  • Background checks and clearance required;
  • Experience in at least one area of utility systems (HVAC, electricity, plumbing, equipment management, etc.);
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate evening and weekend events as needed;
  • Calm demeanor when making emergency and safety related decisions;
  • Able to lift 50 lbs.;
  • Working knowledge of MS Office;
  • Pleasant and professional disposition interfacing with the public and communicating with visitors to the Museum.

 

The Facilities Department is a team that shares responsibility for the museum’s buildings and their security on a 24-hour basis - 365 days of the year, including weekends and holidays.  Flexibility and weekend hours are required across every member of the facilities team. The successful candidate will demonstrate a willingness to be trained and understand the Museum’s facilities and general operations.

A demonstrated passion for the arts, the work of the museums, and/or institutions of public service is preferred.
