Job Title:  Marketing & Communications Specialist 
Reports to:  Director of Marketing and Communication 
Status:  Part Time, up to 25 hours per week 

About PYO Music Institute: The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Music Institute (PYOMI) is the tri-state region’s premier youth orchestra organization for young classical and jazz musicians. Through nine program divisions, including classical, jazz, string, brass, and symphonic band ensembles, as well as Tune Up Philly, a free, community-based music education program, PYOMI inspires over 1,000 students with character, discipline, commitment, and community through music. 

Job Summary: The Part-Time Marketing & Communications Specialist supports the execution of PYOMI’s marketing strategy through brand storytelling, content creation, graphic design, and digital communications. Working closely with the Director of Marketing & Communications, this role creates compelling marketing materials to bring PYOMI’s concerts, programs, and community impact to life across multiple platforms.

 

Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Design marketing materials including social media graphics and reels, digital advertisements, flyers, concert programs, email graphics, merch, and other promotional assets.  
  • Identify and support storytelling initiatives featuring students, faculty, alumni, patrons, performances, and behind-the-scenes experiences.  
  • Assist with photo and video capture at rehearsals, concerts, and special events.  
  • Coordinate and publish content across PYOMI’s digital platforms, including email, social, website, online event calendars, venue and partner websites. 
  • Maintain accuracy and consistency of information across all digital platforms.  
  • Assist with scheduling and maintaining the organization’s content calendar.  
  • Coordinate the Student Social Media Council, including meeting support, content collection, and student contributor communications.  
  • Assist the Director of Marketing & Communications with media and community outreach efforts. 
  • Assist with partner marketing needs, including providing approved assets and event information.  

 

Administrative & Department Support 

  • Maintain organized marketing files, calendars, and project trackers.  
  • Track invoices and assist with basic administration.  
  • Support coordination of marketing deadlines and deliverables.  
  • Assist with other department projects as needed.  

 

Qualifications 

  • 2+ years of experience in marketing, communications, graphic design, social media, or related fields preferred.  
  • Strong written and visual communication skills. 
  • Experience using tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, Social Schedulers, Ticketing Software, Mailchimp, and Shopify a plus. 
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital marketing practices.  
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.  
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.  
  • Interest in music, education, or nonprofit organizations preferred. 

 

Employment Status: Part-time hourly employee, up to 25 hours per week on site in the office and/or at events.

Compensation: $20 per hour. No employee benefits are extended.

 

Education Level: 
Minimum high school diploma; college degree preferred.
