Part-Time Development & Fundraising Coordinator

The Nelly Berman School of Music is looking for a warm, creative, organized person who would like to help us build the future of our scholarship program.

Our nonprofit, the Nelly Berman Classical Music Institute, provides merit- and financial-need-based scholarships to talented and hardworking students studying classical music. We are beginning an important campaign to strengthen our endowment by $500,000, so that investment income can increasingly support scholarships while preserving the principal for future generations.

This is a hands-on learning opportunity, not a position where we expect you to already know everything about fundraising. You will work closely with the Director of the School, learning together about foundation grants, individual donors, fundraising events, and long-term giving.

We are especially interested in someone who is:

• A good writer and communicator
• Organized, curious, and resourceful
• Comfortable researching, making connections, and following up
• Warm and interested in building relationships
• Interested in music, education, the arts, philanthropy, or nonprofit work
• Excited to learn and take initiative

Previous fundraising or grant-writing experience is helpful, but not required. We welcome someone early in their career who would like to learn nonprofit development, as well as a retired or semi-retired professional who would enjoy sharing their experience and helping build something meaningful.

Responsibilities:

The Development & Fundraising Coordinator will assist with:

• Researching foundations and potential individual supporters
• Learning and assisting with grant applications and proposals
• Developing relationships with donors and foundations
• Organizing and following up with prospective supporters
• Preparing fundraising letters and other materials
• Helping develop our $500,000 endowment campaign
• Assisting with fundraising events, including our upcoming Nelly's Heart and Dance, celebrating the life and legacy of Nelly Berman
• Using Canva to create flyers, posters, programs, and brochures for our concerts and fundraising events. 
• Updating our Wordpress website with new programs and faculty, and student achievements. 

This is an opportunity to become part of a very personal and meaningful project: helping preserve the legacy of a remarkable music school and ensuring that its scholarship program can continue for generations to come.

We are looking for someone who will enjoy working closely with the Director as a team. You do not need to arrive as an expert. What matters most is intelligence, kindness, initiative, good judgment, and a genuine desire to help.
