Philadelphia Young Playwrights

Philadelphia Young Playwrights (PYP) is holding auditions for our upcoming 2026-2027 season,  especially for our classroom acting roster and our annual SaturPLAY! Festival. We are seeking local, non-union actors of all racial and ethnic backgrounds, gender identities, ages, and abilities, reflecting the richly varied communities we serve.

*We do welcome submissions from university and teen actors!*

We are especially interested in actors who:

  • are comfortable portraying a wide range of characters and ages
  • have an interest in seriously engaging and collaborating with young artists who come from a wide range of backgrounds
  • have experience in new play development
  • speak multiple languages, especially Spanish, Mandarin, and Farsi

All actors must be able to pass and provide proof of updated PA Criminal, Child Abuse, and FBI clearances upon being offered any role. (If you’ve never gone through the clearance process before, don’t worry: PYP will cover and support the process.

All PYP acting work is paid - information below.

Definite Projects Being Cast:

SaturPLAY - Our annual celebration of plays written by young people and FOR young people will be held this year at the Please Touch Museum on Saturday, January 16, 2026 from 10:00am - 2:00pm and will rehearse weekday evenings from January 9th - January 13th at Philadelphia Young Playwrights’ location at 1219 Vine Street. Tech rehearsal will be held at the Please Touch Museum (date/times TBD). Actors will be cast in 3-4 short plays that will be produced as staged readings with full blocking. Actors will be expected to balance vulnerable sincerity with cartoonish hijinks in their single blow-out performance. (This opportunity is paid at a rate of $800.)

Classroom Actors - Performers will visit classrooms in person with a PYP teaching artist. Classroom actors serve students in a number of capacities, including: cold readings, giving feedback on drafts, improvising based on scenes, and performing at in-school festivals. (Multiple classroom acting opportunities available from December, 2026 - June 2027, paid at a rate of $40/hr.)

Note: Actors will also be considered for any additional projects/readings that may arise throughout the season.
