Quaker First Day School Teacher

The First Day School Teacher will nurture the spiritual, emotional, and social development of children and youth within the Quaker tradition. The teacher will plan and lead age-appropriate lessons and activities centered on the Quaker testimonies of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship, alongside Quaker process and history. The teacher will foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for pre-school and school age children and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

• With educational resources from Merion Meeting and guidance of the Religious Education committee, develop engaging, spiritually grounded lessons for children and youth on Sunday mornings during the school year.
• -Use Quaker values and practice in the curriculum, such as silence, stillness, reflection, consensus, and sharing one's gifts.
• Create a safe and respectful space for all children and families, regardless of background or belief.
• -Support and work with the Religious Education committee on special events like an all-generation Meeting for Worship.
• Ensure compliance with the Meeting's child safety and protection policies.

Qualifications:

• Experience working with young children in educational, extracurricular, or religious settings.
• Familiarity with or willingness to learn about Quaker faith and practice.
• Ability to adapt lessons to different age groups.
• Background check and PA child abuse history clearances are required.

Salary: $50 - $60 per hour

Commitment: Approximately 2-3 hours weekly, from September through June, including preparation and class time.
